Namibia has been elected vice chair of the Kimberley Process for 2008 by the 2007 Kimberley Process Plenary Meeting.
This move will place Namibia in the position to chair the Kimberley Process in 2009.
India will take over chairmanship of the process from the European Community in 2008.
Namibia is to host the Kimberley Process Secretariat in 2009. Its duties will include coordinating international activities and ensuring that applicants requesting membership meet KP requirements.
